Cookies, ads & monetisation

This starter site includes disabled ad slots so you can prepare for monetisation without implying that ads are already running or earning money.

This is a setup guide and policy template. Replace it with wording that matches the services you actually use and obtain professional advice if needed.

Advertising is not enabled by default

The starter package does not request AdSense ads unless you deliberately set the AdSense configuration to enabled, add your approved publisher ID and ad slot IDs, and configure consent as appropriate. Joining an ad network and getting a site approved is separate from building the website; approval and earnings are not guaranteed.

Before enabling Google AdSense

  • Publish original, useful content and complete the site pages.
  • Apply through your own AdSense account and follow Google's site review steps.
  • Enter the publisher ID and ad unit IDs in assets/config.js only after approval.
  • Choose and configure a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP) where required for UK/EEA/Swiss visitors. Verify the current requirements in the AdSense account.
  • Update the privacy notice and cookie information to match your real setup.

Third-party video embeds

When enabled, social video embeds may contact the relevant platforms and load scripts, media or cookies. To reduce surprises, only add posts you want to display and check each platform's current terms and privacy settings.

Possible future monetisation

Depending on eligibility and the audience, options may include website display ads, affiliate links that are clearly disclosed, sponsorships and each platform's own creator monetisation programmes. These are separate programmes with their own requirements; none creates guaranteed income.
